TAIAO has now authorized voluntary practices to resume on June 8th, 2020 under certain criteria. Voluntary practices FOR VARSITY FOOTBALL ONLY (Ages 14 and up prior to Sept. 1st, 2020) will be held at Austin Colony Park in Bryan, Monday thru Thursday, 5 PM - 7 PM beginning Monday, June 8th, 2020, thru Thursday, June 18th, 2020. At this time, there are no practices scheduled for Junior High players until August. There is no cost for this training, we just ask that if a player participates, he intends to or is strongly considering play football this year for the Brazos Valley Mustangs, Varsity team. Players need to attend the voluntary practices in athletic attire and cleats. No pads or equipment will be issued. These will be non-contact practices. They need to bring their own water bottles. Water will not be furnished due to current COVID-19 league restrictions. See you there!
The TAIAO steering committee has issued a new directive suspending all practice activities through April 30th due to the COVID-19 concerns. We are now prohibited from conducting any off season activities to include the voluntary workouts and upcoming spring training. The league will not provide further guidance until around April 15th as to whether we will once again begin activities or continue with the suspension. As soon as we are authorized to commence with sports activities, announcements will be posted on the BVCHEA website, Facebook, and Instagram.
The Mustangs came up short in the TAIAO Division II State Title Game against the Victoria Homeschool Cobras 46-24. We congratulate our players for fighting the hard fight and running the race. It says a lot, when you are one of two teams left standing at the end of a hard fought season. "Our boys fought hard, but today wasn't our day. I'm extremely proud of how these boys have faced adversity straight in the eyes and responded by advancing to the State Championship Game. It's tough we couldn't pull it out for the Seniors, but the future of Mustang football is bright. This isn't the end. Don't worry, we'll be back..." said Coach Ray following the loss. This was the first time the Mustangs have ever advanced passed the first round of the playoffs since joining TAIAO in 2016. The Mustangs won a State Championship in 2015, then a member of TCAL.
After a long and challenging season riddled with injuries, the Mustangs got hot and healthy at just the right time! In the first round of the playoffs they took down the NYOS Jaguars 47-32. In the semifinal game they traveled to Stephenville, and took down perennial power house Stephenville FAITH 44-40. On November 30th, 2019 at 12:00 PM, the Mustangs will go to battle with a very familiar opponent, the Victoria Homeschool Cobras. The game will be in the Mustangs backyard at cross town rival, Allen Academy in Bryan. Come support the Mighty Mustangs as they look to win the State Championship for the first time since 2015!
On November 9th, 2019, the undefeated Mustangs Junior High faced off against the San Antonio FEAST at the Texas Bowl as part of the TAIAO Grid Iron Bowl Series in Bastrop. The Mighty Mustangs took down FEAST and completed their perfect season. Congratulations to these young men and their outstanding coaches. The future of Mustang Football is bright!
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the Brazos Valley (BVCHEA) Lady Mustangs! BOTH the Junior High and Varsity teams swept the TAIAO State Tournament and are the TAIAO District 1 State Champions! Their last season game was played on October 19th, 2019 with a win against Bastrop Tribe!!
Friday night started off with the Mustang Junior High Football team defeating the Allen Academy Rams and improving to 5-0 on the season and remaining UNDEFEATED! The Varsity team came up short and fell to a 2-3 overall record. The Mustangs continue league play next week as they face the NYOS Jaguars at home.
Varsity Lady Mustangs played a great game last night. Jazmin Olivarez played all around after needing to change from libero jersey to black. Hadley Klock, Cecelia Rose Tipton & Elli Freund stepped up their game by leading Danielle Dickey & Grace Baker through a new rotation for the night. Way to go Lady Mustangs!! Junior High also added another win to their list playing Connection School. Alli Warden had 9 Aces/11 Service Points & Dahlia Olivarez had 4. Cami, Katy & Savannah tied for the most kills! Awesome Job!!
