Our coaches are an amazing group of volunteers dedicated to instilling athletic skills as well as Christian virtues in our young athletes.

MALEIGH CANON

VARSITY HEAD COACH

Maleigh was born and raised in Aledo, TX. After graduating from Texas A&M she and her husband, Steve, worked at a Christian camp on a working ranch near Tyler, TX, before moving to Caldwell. She owns and operates Canon Creek Photography, homeschools her 3 kids, serves on faculty at One Day Academy, serves at First Baptist Church Caldwell, coordinates the Burleson County Master Gardeners, coaches track for Aggieland Homeschool Athletics, and has led corporate worship all her adult life. This is her 6th year as Head Varsity Cheer Coach for the Mustangs.

JANET MANGUM

ASSISTANT COACH

Janet was born in Paris, TX, and was raised just outside of Waco. After graduating from Texas A&M, she worked as an elementary physical education teacher and cross country/track coach in Hearne, TX. Janet currently home schools her 2 kids, serves as a tutor in their homeschool coop, Classical Conversations, and helps to coach any of her kid’s extracurricular activities. This is her 6th year coaching for Mustangs Cheer.  She also helps with Mustang Volleyball and Cornerstone basketball. She and her husband Randall serve on the BVCHEA Board as Athletic Directors.    

LEIGH JONES

JUNIOR HIGH COACH

Leigh is currently a stay-at-home mom who homeschools her 4 awesome boys.  She works part-time at their church helping with administrative duties, home group pastoring, and event planning.  Leigh grew up cheering and has loved helping coach the Mustang Junior High girls.  She and her husband, Ryan, also serve on the BVCHEA Board of Directors.   

GEORGIA MORGAN

JUNIOR HIGH HEAD COACH

Georgia was born in Longview, TX, and moved seven times with her military family until settling in Bryan, TX. A homeschool graduate, she was a member of BVCHEA's cheer squad and volleyball team during high school. She is a junior at Texas A&M University, where she is studying Ag Leadership and Development and looks forward to furthering her education in graduate school.

VARSITY HEAD COACH

Jeff graduated from Texas A&M in 1994 with a BS in Kinesiology and has coached boys’ and girls’ sports in both middle and high schools for over 30 years. He has coached BVCHEA football for the past 5 years while teaching at Ross Elementary School in Bryan. He also coaches basketball through Cornerstone Christian Academy. Jeff and his beautiful wife Mellanie have been married for 35 years and have homeschooled their 4 great kids since 2001. Their daughters graduated from Texas A&M University and are married to wonderful young men. Their two sons are still in high school and actively involved in sports and their youth group. Jeff enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, kayaking, and anything outdoors. Their family attends A&M Church of Christ, where they have been involved in teaching, mission trips, and youth activities for many years.

Dean and Melanie have been married since 1991, and they have three children. Since moving from Nashville at the beginning of 2022, their family has attended A&M Church of Christ, where Dean serves as the lead pastor. Dean is also the founder of Apex Life & Leadership Consulting, an executive coaching business. In addition to preaching and teaching, his great passion is helping people find and serve in their areas of giftedness. Dean has coached and served on the board of directors for two different youth tackle programs since 2010.

Shawna and Andrew have two adorable kids and an adorable yorkie named Buddy. Shawna does Workforce Consulting as her regular job, and their family attends Grace Bible Church Southwood Campus. Shawna has been coaching since 1996, including volleyball, basketball, and softball. This is her 3rd year coaching with BVCHEA. Her favorite part of coaching is watching girls build their confidence on and off the court. In their spare time Andrew and Shawna like to travel, go to the movies, and shuttle their kids to their many activities.
