What does BVCHEA stand for?

BVCHEA stands for Brazos Valley Christian Home Educators Association.

What is BVCHEA?

BVCHEA is a non-profit organization created by homeschool families to provide some of the opportunities that traditional schools offer. BVCHEA was established in 1991 and it has been bringing together homeschool families ever since!

What are the Brazos Valley Mustangs?

You may see BVCHEA sports teams referred to as the Brazos Valley Mustangs. BVCHEA is the name of our organization. Brazos Valley Mustangs is our team name.

What sports do you offer?

Please click the Athletics link at the top of this page to find out more about each sport.

I see that BVCHEA does not offer a sport my athlete plays. Can BVCHEA offer it?

Where there is a will, there is a way! The BVCHEA board has developed a process to evaluate new sports, and have recently added some great new opportunities. Please reach out to us to find out more about how new sports can be offered and what is required to get it off the ground! Also, check out the TAIAO website for the sports/activities that the league offers postseason play for!

How is BVCHEA organized?

The BVCHEA Board of Directors oversee the operations of the organization. Board members help with administrative functions, make decisions on issues that affect the organization, and help coordinate the athletic programs and functions. There are sports committees that represent the different sports programs. Coaches are volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to their teams.

How are board members elected?

Board members are married couples who apply to be part of the board. Active board members decide who will become board members. Couples can apply to join the board by filling out the board member application (both must submit applications) and submitting them to a member of the board of directors. The board will review applications. Applications are available here.

I heard negative things about BVCHEA.

BVCHEA was founded in 1991, and as with any organization, it has gone through some rough patches. It is a testament to the organization and the dedicated families who kept it going that BVCHEA continues to grow and thrive. Homeschool organizations experience turnover as families graduate their kids and move on. While BVCHEA cannot go back in time to change the past, we look forward to continued growth and building a good environment for our families! If you have a concern about a specific incident involving a BVCHEA member or student, please contact us and a board member will reach out to discuss your concern.

Does BVCHEA have paid staff?

BVCHEA is run entirely by volunteers. Coaches may be offered reduced registration fees for their children. Contact a board member for details.

Can I help coach?

BVCHEA encourages and is grateful for volunteers who step up to help coach! We want coaching to be a fun and rewarding experience for you and the kids!

How do I become a coach?

To ensure the safety and integrity of our programs, we have a process for approving potential coaches. Potential coaches need to submit a coach application. Board members will run background checks, review all applications, and may choose to meet with applicants. Coaches must complete required training, become familiar with TAIAO league rules, and understand BVCHEA expectations for coaches. Applications are available here.

I am not able to coach. Are there other ways I can help?

YES! We always need volunteers! It takes a lot of work to organize these programs, and coaches need parents to help lighten the load. Parents, relatives, friends – anyone can pitch in! Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Fundraising for team equipment,
  • Planning teambuilding events and sports banquets,
  • Updating social media pages,
  • Helping with game day duties: ticket/concession stands, scorekeeping, photo/video

Your coaches and board members can help find opportunities for you to get involved! Volunteer applications are available here.

How can businesses support the Mustangs?

Your company can sponsor a Mustangs sport! Go to Support Us to view team sponsorship options and incentives. You can donate directly through our website. Your donation goes directly to our athletes and teams. ANY amount is appreciated and helps us provide for these programs. BVCHEA is run by volunteers and we have very little overhead.
